Every year US Foods holds an award banquet to honor their top brokers, vendors and sales team members. Being one of the largest food service distributors in the US with over 300,000 products, this award banquet is the “crème de la crème”, with only 16 awards given out.
The intimate event for the US Foods Los Angeles division, hosted at the Marriott Hotel in Newport Beach on Jan 11th, 2012, had 8 round tables where the US Foods team and the nominees sat amongst each other enjoying drinks, dinner and sharing stories of 2012.
Tabanero Hot Sauce, along with Star Fisheries and Coffee Bean were the nominees for the 2012 Rookie of the Year, which is based on bringing an original or innovative product or concept to market. Nominees in other categories included General Mills, Advantage Waypoint, Pepsi, Kraft, Hormel and Kelloggs.
After Jay Westover, Director of Merchandising and Marketing for US Foods Los Angeles announced Tabanero Hot Sauce as the winner of the 2013 Rookie of the Year, he said, “This was my favorite award to give out the entire night! Tabanero was the underdog and most people expected one of the bigger guys to take the award but the Tabanero Team deserved this win. Their innovation, dedication and passion were unsurpassed and we see great potential for this company.”
“It was an honor just to be nominated and in the company of these great organizations. We did not expect to win the actual award”, commented Kevin Peake, Marketing Director of Tabanero Hot Sauce.
Tabanero Hot Sauce has ambitious plans for 2013. Currently being sold in 6 states, it is their hope to close the gaps and make itself available to consumers nationwide by the end of the year. With this kind of momentum and passion, it would not be a surprise for this spicy underdog to break into the ranks of the billion-dollar hot sauce industry, dominated by a handful of giants that have been around for decades.
About Tabanero Hot Sauce:
Released to the market in early 2011 and made using the highest quality all-natural ingredients from Tabasco, Mexico, Tabanero is unlike any other hot sauce on the market. It has a unique flavor that comes from the combination of Habanero peppers, carrots, onions, garlic, citrus and agave nectar; which balances out the heat of the habaneros and accentuates the flavors.
